So, who does everyone think is the best candidate for the Democrats?

I wish I could be more excited about the Democratic candidates. I guess I give a slight preference to Obama, but that's just how I feel today. John Edwards doesn't seem to have much of a foreign policy. Obama says things in a way that make me feel good about him as a person and his beliefs, but I'm not sure that saying great things makes him a good leader. I hope so, but I can't say for sure. And as for Hillary... I wish I could like her more. I feel that she's a good political operator and dynamic. But I'm afraid she could win the nomination and not be able to win the presidency, and then we'd be stuck with another Republican.  Although I do feel pretty comfortable with the idea of her as the president. I'll probably feel differently next week.

At first, "another Republican" sounds scary. But I think something else is going on in this country. The last two elections showed a neoconservative/fundamentalist Christian base turn out to give the right the win. But Iraq has trashed that, even for their own side. And immigration is another sore point. Plus the general incompetence (Katrina, Harriet Myers, Alberto Gonzales) and failures to be worth any moral high ground (Gonzales again, Scooter Libby, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz) make even the conservative intellectuals shake their heads in shame. The Democratic party has a real chance to reclaim the helm.
